M S Dhoni – fame analysis?

Any channel you switch to has this Mr. Cool Captain of the Indian cricket team with a wide smile. He’s the number one player courtesy of the ODI rankings, boasts an impressive average, has a few priced titles including the T20 world cup, a cracking keeper and what not?

Captain MS Dhoni has been a phenomenal success. No link ups yet has been serious enough to tarnish his image. What more can one ask for? Money, glitz and talent. That’s Dhoni for you.

Batting a stable innings has been his power. Dhoni has never been the explosive type for the first 40 balls that he faces. But beyond that he’s any bowler’s worst nightmare. We saw what he did to Irfan Pathan in the match at Dharamshala did we not? Though he has a great average courtesy of many not out innings, we haven’t seen Dhoni yet as the savior when it comes to batting. Sourav Ganguly widely regarded as the builder of taday’s Indian team never had this recognition. He did not have so many ads. But the money has not gone to Dhoni’s head. He still is down to earth despite a few problems within the team. (Remember Irfan?)

On the field he serves as an energy source and does not get blown down easily by defeats. Sourav Ganguly was an equally good captain and has records second to only the Little Master but he was an aggressive and emotional captain. Each with his own talents but one smile can take you a long way. In Dhoni, India sees an asset as he maintains a good rapport with the team.

Can we forget the great 183 in the one down position? The gigantic sixers? Charisma. We heard a few comments about the stars and sun etc from religious pundits all over but this is beyond all that.

But still one point Dhoni needs to see is that he must take burdens into his shoulders and certain grudges like Raina not given the one-down, Irfan being rejected can be avoided. We still have no replacement for the Little Master. Will Dhoni step into his shoes? Just like the abysmal recent T20’s replaced by the coveted Asia Cup let’s hope that Dhoni rocks for India against the Aussies.
